But this morning I made a mental note that I needed to record a couple of the things that Keller is doing/saying that are just so cute...
"Teller dude it"
Translates: "Keller do it" or more like "Let me do it now" and occasionally "That's cool, let me give it a try" He is certainly asserting himself more and more and demanding a bit more independence. I guess I really need to teach him something like, "Can I try that?" or "Can I have a turn, please?" But for now, I'll be glad he's interested in trying new things and developing his independence!
"Ummmm..."
Cracks me up when he says this. Isn't he too little to say this? We'll ask him a question and he'll appropriately use "ummmm..." as a holder when he is thinking about how to respond. It's such a terrible linguistic habit to develop, and I don't think Trav or I say it all that much that I'm aware of at least, so where did it come from and how does he know how to use it appropriately? It's funny:)
Keller hasn't really formed an attachment to any toy/stuffed animal in particular, but lately, he's been a little more dependent or comforted by his "blankie"--Go figure that of all the blankies he could fall for, he chose the soft fleecy super warm one that he insists on having put on him every night (even the warm ones). When we go in to get him in the morning, he's standing in the crib in his sleep sack, holding his blankie in one hand and another stuffed toy in the other...a doggie, bunny, monkey, Baby Beans, or fireman Dave most likely. Very cute.
Snooze Button
Have I written yet about Trav's ability to "snooze" Keller? He had a streak of waking up early and so Trav gave a try to just going in and laying him down while saying "It's still sleepy time"-and then we'd get another hour of sleep out of him, very nice. I personally have yet to have success with this tactic, but I appreciate when Trav does it---he can even get him to nap longer by doing this. What the heck! I guess Keller just knows that I'll be the sucker that goes in and picks him up or whatever...All good though.
Transferability
Finally! Keller can fall asleep in the car and actually be carried into his crib to continue a nap! Only took what 18 months for him to get there...it's so nice to know we can do this!! He used to open those eyeballs up as soon as we pulled into the driveway! I'm so grateful for this new skill of his and I LOVE how smooshy and sleepy and dead-weighted he is when I take him out of the seat and put him into his crib. My (big) little baby boy:)
Running
Cracks me up also. He's a big fan of running now. And playing "chase" and catching people. To some innocent bystanders it may appear that he is hugging other children, but Mommy and Daddy knows those are not really hugs. They are tackles. They mean "gotcha"---and they're cute as long as other children's parents believe they are hugs!
Mr. Social
He is more and more interested and eager to hang out with other kids. Seems to like bigger kids the best if he has a choice. He started chasing a little boy at the park the other day trying to get the little boy's car he was holding. Then when he couldn't catch that big boy (probably like 4) he began to chase (and "hug") another little boy (probably like 3). And down at our park here yesterday, a little boy (two and a half-ish) was playing with his dad, making "ice cream" and serving him food (woodchips) and Keller jumped right into the mix and was copying this other little boy and feeding his dad. It was so cute to see him "pretending" with another little boy. He also has been having more "playdates" with friends he knows and looks forward to seeing them and of course playing with their toys. I have to post some of the pictures of him from the last couple of weeks because he has been a busy little guy between cousins and friends. It's just so amazing to watch his little personality emerge more and more.
Trucks
When Keller hears a truck, he runs to the window and climbs up on the toy basket to see the truck. He's a big fan of trucks. And lawnmowers. And hammers. And screwdrivers.
Colors
And to balance out the love of trucks, etc. Keller can consistently point out all things "pink." Sure he'll get blue right on occasion, but pink is by far the most consistent. He pointed out my pink shirt the other day, the pink laundry detergent bottle in the store, the pink marker...
Pee Pee on the Potty!!!!
Well how can I forget this one!!! On Friday morning, Keller had just come out of the tub (or was he going into the tub?) and was running around with no pants on. I was on the couch and I see him squeezing his chubby little legs together (kinda like the peepee dance) and so I said, "Keller do you have to go pee pee?" No. He does the "dance" again. Trav says, "C'mon, let go peepee on the potty" and picks him up and plops him on the big potty (we've done this with him before and usually he makes some grunting noises, seeming to actually try, but then says "done"). Well this time I hear Trav exclaim, "Yayyyyyyy! You did it!!" and low and behold, he squirted a little pee pee into the potty! What a big boy! This doesn't of course mean we're actually potty training, it's just building connections I imagine. We just happened to catch him at the right time on that one...But man was it so cute to see his naked little body on the big potty and the big smile on his face and his little face peering down between his legs to watch the pee pee come out. What a big boy!
And now, sleep. No pictures today although I should, but this is good enough for now.
And I'm still pregnant. Another month to go...That sounds like a long time but I imagine it will fly right by...(fingers crossed!)
