Back to School
Today was the official first day back to work/school for the staff and the kids start on Monday...it's a good thing because when I work I get paid and it seems that right now, part of my "nesting" process involves money...I'm so afraid to spend any money...I just want to save it all up so I have it when I'm not getting a paycheck...It's also good to be back at school because I feel more productive...though we'll see how productive I actually am after a full day of work. I was in need of some serious toothpicks to keep my eyelids open by 1:30 this afternoon during our training. Too much cognitive stimulation.
This evening was our first birthing class at the hospital. Didn't really know what to expect but it seems like it will be a good fit. The teacher is an advocate of natural birth and empowering women to understand the complete process of labor and of the body's natural potential...understanding may lead to less fear which can lead to decreased perception of pain...yadda yadda...BUT, at the same time, she acknowledges the need for medical intervention when necessary and of each woman recognizing her own needs in her own personal birth experience...we shall see how it goes...as I said to Travis in the lobby, "Maybe I can make a few mommy friends;" Why is it so hard for me to CONNECT with people...??
And a interesting tidbit for you readers...yesterday, Travis and I weighed the exact same weight, to the tenth of a pound! I actually thought that would have happened weeks ago when he was training for that Jiu Jitsu tournament, but it didn't (good for me:) We took pictures to prove it, but remember, I'm lazy about the whole camera thing...
Maybe this weekend I'll do the camera thing and post pictures from Abby's wedding and all...so nice and so perfectly reflective of her and her now husband...Yay for weddings and babies!
Sure should have been typing up class lists and whatnot rather than writing this entry...naaaahhhh!

Broken Car

Broken Computer
Please note the blue bar on the top of the page only has ONE baby left on it after this one...I think we're in good shape...The room is cleaned out, the super-low VOC paint has been purchased, the furniture is decided upon AND stocked so we don't have to wait to get it which is nice...we're just going to wait until the room is painted before we buy it/pick it up. What needs to be done is that the bedroom door needs to be fixed so that it actually closes and the attic pull-down door needs to be repaired to close all the way or else replaced...both Trav's jobs...
I went to the library today and picked up a few "natural childbirth" books to start getting my head in gear...yup, some rather graphic pictures don't really help with that though:)
Abby's wedding is Saturday...yay! Did I mention already that Jill found bridesmaid dresses for she and I on ebay...$25 for Ann Taylor Loft Maternity dresses...nice job! I just finished packaging up little bars of soap for her favors...she grew her own flowers and is getting married in the woods somewhere at some waterfall in the Avon area...she is requiring that all pregnant people be escorted by their husbands over the moss covered rocks on the trail down to the falls:) Her reception is at Wickham Park in Manchester...Cross your fingers for a beautiful day or at least no rain (or hail).
Speaking of rain, now that it's let up, I better go get my laundry and walk the doggy before it starts up again!

Scary Storm
Yup, I think I was in 'the brunt' of that storm, pulled over in a church parking lot where there were no trees to fall on me, hail pounding down on my car, crying because I was so scared...waiting for a tornado to come through to pick me up...I was on my way home from a trip up to Berlin to 1) exhaust my options for furniture and 2) take a break from the doggy that was driving me nuts! The rain started on my way up there, stopped for awhile and then picked up again on the way home, slow going, but fine, until I hit the Sikorsky Bridge where visibility was like 2 feet. Waiting at the traffic light in the downpour with an erie looking sky, small bits of hail began to fall. Then once I turned up the hill (towards our wedding park) it was so so dark, trees were blowing, hail was much bigger...close to the size of those little gumball machine bouncy balls, leaves and branches littered the street, there was a car pulled over with blinkers on, I didn't know if they knew something I didn't, like..."tornado ahead" but I kept driving because I didn't want to pull over under trees that could fall on me...by now I'm starting to get teary, heart palpitating, turn up the next road and can see nothing but big white chunks bouncing off my windshield, wondering if they could crack it...I wanted to pull over and just stop driving but again...trees, then came the church with cars in the lot so I pulled in there and sat, scared and sobbing...after 20 minutes or so, it stopped hailing so I headed out (mind you, I'm only like 2 miles from home) head up the street until I got to a downed tree, turned around, check my message from Trav that says "I hope you're in shelter, there maybe a tornado coming through Stratford," consider going into a strangers house to sit in their basement, but I didn't and drove down the next road...big flooded area...I watched the truck in front of me go through water almost to the top of his tires...my little Subaru wouldn't make it...turn around to try plan C...heading down mainstreet until I see a cop blocking the road, water and a tree down/electrical lines...turn again, more water I refuse to go through, eventually I found my way down Main Street, up Highland, so so close to home, another huge tree in front of me, power lines down...I just wanted to be home. Trav calls says not to come down one side of our road due to flooding so I hit the next block, go through water, just needing to be home now, car makes funny noise, I reassured it we were almost home, get through the water, make it home at last...joining Travis in his water clean-up in the bathroom and kitchen which were soaked from the windows having been open. And that was my Thursday adventure...I hope my car starts today!!
Still no furniture decision;)

Still No Pictures...
Beach Haven was a nice getaway, a break from The Lists, although I tried cleaning up my disaster of a laptop...organizing and discarding pictures, documents, etc. though I still have a long way to go. I actually ended up with an annoying head cold while away which made me lazy lazy lazy, but obviously that's exactly what I needed after all of the Go, Go, Go I've been doing. If we don't take care of our bodies, they certainly let us know what they need...Oh, and while I was down in NJ, my dad had prepared all of these delicious meals...chicken parm, his famous meatballs, meatloaf, pork chops, and sausage and peppers...and I didn't want to be rude or anything;) Funny I had just been talking to someone about missing the "family culture" of food, if you will. My dad prepared these meals with love, the very same way he did (or my mom did) when I was a kid. His meatballs are iconic, his chicken and pork is "double dipped" in eggs and breadcrumbs...So, I ate meat, 5 days in a row.
Which brings me to my Dr. Appointment on Monday...my glucose test came back fine, but apparently I was a bit on the anemic side, which I've always sort of struggled with (sometimes I could donate blood, sometimes I couldn't...that's always how I knew of my iron levels). Then came the Ah-Ha moment about why I was so very open to eating meat without much thought on vacation. If it was just me that I had to worry about with low iron I probably wouldn't have felt the need, but I don't want to do anything to compromise the health of the little one dependent on me right now...
Most of the rest of the week has been finalizing registry items and continuing the furniture shopping...Good thing I actually measured the space in the baby's room because it's a bit more limited than you'd think...between the closet door needing to open, a drafty window that you can't put the crib in front of, and the attic pull-down stairs space, we're rather limited, which would be fine if we just wanted the crib and dresser/changing table combo, but we really need the additional storage of another chest considering the closet in that bedroom will likely remain Travis's...we're getting close though. And luckily the 3 furniture sets we have (I have) in mind are all "in-stock" at their respective stores so we won't have the 8-16 week delivery window. It's ultimately come down to being reasonable price-wise, but having the quality to make the set last...The one set that ultimately guarantees quality and has lots of additional pieces to add-on down the road is most expensive (obviously) but doesn't feel much different quality-wise than the other sets...one of the other sets has a bit of carved character and is fairly-priced so we could comfortably purchase two dressers and a crib...the only drawback to that is that the color is a little darker than I had originally planned...I'm sure that whatever we (I) decide will be just fine. Trav is being very good about "my" long and drawn-out decision-making process, though he did have to physically drag me to bed the other night as I had the measuring tape and floor plan maps in front of me at the kitchen table with all the furniture flyers spread out before me...
We're getting there though. The paint decision was pretty easy...we're going with blue because everything else about the room...bedding, etc. is going to be neutral so we really need some color to brighten things up...our kitchen is already green, and yellow won't compliment the bedding, so blue it is! At Home Depot we literally went in to the Blue Paint section, picked up two color-swatch cards, narrowed it down to two colors, one Trav picked, one I picked, then held the paint up to the "darker" crib and decided that Trav's color was better...why can't all decisions be that easy for me...grrr...that's just me, I guess!
